You may have seen on TV examples of interviews where you can easily tell the subject is lying. However, these “smoking gun” interviews are not always easily found in the workplace.
Clear Law Institute CEO, Michael Johnson, spoke with XpertHR on steps that HR professionals can take to increase their success of spotting deception when conducting internal investigations with employees.
He debunks common misconceptions, including:
- Good eye contact means the witness is more likely telling the truth
- If someone fidgets a lot, they are probably lying
- Asking tough questions is the best way to get the truth
